2 militants, soldier killed in gunfight in north Kashmir’s Sopore

Sopore: Two unidentified militants and a soldier were killed on Friday in a gun-battle in Behrampora village of this north Kashmir Township.

The gunfight, officials said broke out when army’s 22 RR, special operations group (SOG) of police laid a siege around Behrampora village here this morning and started a cordon and search operation (CASO) official sources told Kashmir Reader.

The militants hiding in a residential house opened fire when the search team started advances. In the initial exchange of fire, a soldier was injured, official sources said.

The soldier identified as Brijesh Kumar succumbed to injuries at army’s Badamibagh cantonment hospital in Srinagar, they added.

In the ensuing gun-battle, two unidentified militants were killed, official sources said.

However, Sopore, Javid Iqbal told Kashmir Reader that the operation was underway and no body of any militant has been recovered from the encounter spot so far.
