Violent protests in Baramulla over local militant’s ‘killing’

Baramulla: Violent protests broke out this afternoon in this north Kashmir Township after news spread that one of the two militants reportedly killed in Kreeri area was a local.

Witnesses told Kashmir Reader that dozens of youth assembled at the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway near Khanpora and staged a pro-freedom demonstration when news spread in the area that a local militant Aqib was slain in Kreeri encounter.

The protesting youth hurled stones at the government forces, who responded with tear smoke shells.

The clashes were going on when this report was filed.
