Encounter breaks out in north Kashmir’s Kreeri

Baramulla: A fierce encounter has raged between government forces and militants in Kreeri area of this north Kashmir district.

The gun-battle broke out after army 29 RR, special operations group (SOG) of police and CRPF laid a siege around Utoora village of Kreeri in the wee hours today and started door to door searches, witnesses told Kashmir Reader.

Militants hiding in a residential house opened fire upon the search team in a bid to break the cordon, they said.

The government forces returned the fire triggering off a fierce gun-battle. The exchange of gunfire was going on when the last reports came in.
