Baramulla: The Congress party, which has garnered a majority in the Municipal Committee Baramulla in the recent local body elections, has picked Umer Azhar Kakroo as the president for the council.
The elected ward numbers of Congress party held a meeting Monday in Baramulla and decided on Umar to be president of council. The meeting was presided by district president of Congress, Shoaib Nabi Lone.
Congress has bagged 12 seats among 21 in the council while BJP got 6 and Independents bagged 3 seats.
Umer is the younger son of late Jan Mohammad Kakroo, a member of the Congress party.
Umer told Kashmir Reader that the party has moved an application to Executive Officer Municipal Council Baramulla along with the signed copies of party ward members, “and in next few days I will join as president Municipal Council Baramulla”.
