SRINAGAR: The joint resistance leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik has called for complete shutdown on Monday and Lal Chowk march on Tuesday to protest the “Kulgam carnage” and New Delhi’s “aggression” in Kashmir.
Six civilians were killed following a gunfight in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Sunday that resulted in killing of three militants and injuries to two soldiers.
JRL in a statement said Kashmir has been turned into a “slaughterhouse” where nobody is safe.
“Indian tyranny and oppression has crossed every limit now and Kashmiris cannot tolerate this silently anymore,” the leadership said. “Kashmiris will observe a total strike against Kulgam carnage and other oppressive measures on Monday, while as on Tuesday; people along with JRL leadership will march to Lal Chowk and hold a protest sit-in against Indian aggression.”
“Also, to highlight Indian aggression against unarmed civilians in Kashmir, JRL is preparing a memorandum to United Nations Secretary General,” the leadership said.
JRL said though New Delhi’s “tyrannical measures” have been continuing for decades but these have failed to break the resolve of the people of Jammu Kashmir.
The leadership said the “criminal silence” of the international community “to safeguard its trade and economic benefits” is “nothing but wickedness”.
