Srinagar: A delegation of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Sunday called on DGP Punjab – Suresh Arora and expressed serious concerns over the atmosphere of fear among Kashmiri students.
“A party delegation led by Shahnawaz Choudhary, Uday Chib, Ajaz Ahmed, Neeraj Kundan, and Sandeep Sharma asked the DGP to ensure safety of Kashmiri students,” the statement said.
The members submitted a memorandum to DGP and urged him to intervene into this issue.
“During the meeting, party leaders demands were put forward which includes creation of special helpline by Punjab Police for students of Jammu and Kashmir and interaction with students of J&K by Punjab Police officers to create a sense of security among them that they are safe in Punjab and creation of post of nodal officers in Punjab under Punjab Police so students and parents can immediately contact them whenever they feel insecure,” the statement said.
It further reads that DGP accepted all these demands and send directions to the police to create helplines on official social media sites of Punjab police for students of Jammu and Kashmir.
“The DGP assured the delegation that all necessary steps shall be taken to ensure a peaceful atmosphere in Punjab for students of Jammu and Kashmir,” the statement said.
