‘Time for New Delhi to accept ground realities in Kashmir’
Srinagar: The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) Saturday condemned the killing of a pregnant lady in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district and said the basic reason for the serious and fragile atmosphere prevailing in Kashmir is New Delhi’s “stubbornness” in delaying the resolution of Kashmir issue.
A pregnant lady- Firdous on late Friday evening was killed during the exchange of fire between the government forces and suspected militants in Pulwama.
The leadership led by Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in a statement expressed grief over the killing and said: “it reflects the atrocities being inflicted on the people of Kashmir.”
The pro-freedom leaders also denounced the “excesses” of forces in many areas of Pulwama. “In absence of any accountability, forces are killing and thrashing people at their wish and will,” they said in a statement.
The JRL said that “Kashmir is going through the blackest chapter of history where every voice of dissent is crushed”.
Slamming New Delhi for its stubbornness, the leadership said: “Instead of accepting the ground realities, Delhi is following iron fist policy which has further aggravated the situation.”
The leaders also expressed concern over the safety and security of hundreds of Kashmiri students studying outside Kashmir.
The statement said that the JRL urged the world community take serious note of the situation prevailing in Kashmir so that people are given a sense of security.
