Baramulla: The army on Friday said that they had killed three militants in a gunfight along the Line of Control (LoC) near Torna post in Boniyar sector of Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday.
They said that an operation was started on Thursday morning when army men posted in the area detected suspicious movement of a group of militants who had crossed the LoC and entered this side of Kashmir. Sources in the army said that the militants were challenged by the army troops but they fired at the army. The fire was retaliated and a search operation was launched after the gun battle ended.
Sources in the army said that the bodies of the three militants were found lying in a deep gorge and it could take some time before they are pulled up and handed over to police.
The area is far from any civilian habitation and situated amid dense forests. The army is the only source of information and this reporter could not confirm the army version from independent sources.
On Friday morning, army’s Srinagar-based spokesperson Lt Col Rajash Kalia confirmed that three militants were killed in Uri and a search operation was continuing in the area.
