Baramulla: A gunfight between the army and a group of militants in Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday has led to the killing of four militants who had infiltrated the border, an army source told Kashmir Reader.
Official sources said that the army unit posted along Torna post at Line of Control (LoC) in Boniyar sector of Uri detected movement of a group of militants. When the army challenged the group, a gunfight ensued which continued for hours.
In the afternoon, a source in the army told Kashmir Reader, four bodies of militants were recovered from the encounter spot. Officially, however, the army is yet to confirm this.
Baramulla Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Imtiyaz Hussain said that police had not received any body as yet, so they, too, cannot confirm the killing of four militants.
News agency UNI reported official sources as telling them that the bodies of four slain militants had been recovered along with arms and ammunition from the encounter site.
An operation to sanitise the area was still going on when this report was filed.
