Militant involved in Pattan attack killed in Kakapora, another arrested: Police

Srinagar: Government forces late Wednesday night killed a newly-recruited militant in a shootout in Pulwama district of southern Kashmir.

Sources said that a militant was intercepted by the forces around 11:45 pm during a naka in Dobgam village of Kakapora area late last night. The militant opened fire on the forces, and in the ensuing shootout the militant was killed.

The slain militant has been identified as Showkat Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Padgampora in Awantipora.

Bhat joined militancy earlier this month and was associated with Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen. He was a Pharmacy student at University of Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla, Imtiyaz Hussain told Kashmir Reader that the slain militant was involved in an attack on police at Pattan on Wednesday.

He said, “The militant who had escaped from Pattan after lobbing a grenade has been killed in Kakapora while the other was arrested by Baramulla police.”
