Bla, Kup hills get first snowfall of season

BARAMULLA: Hilly areas in northern districts of Kupwara, Baramulla and Bandipora received the first snowfall of the season on Tuesday.
The areas which witnessed the light snowfall include the tourist resort Gulmarg, hills in Uri, Rafiabad, Handwara, Kupwara and some hilly areas in Bandipora. The region witnessed a consequent cold wave and drop in temperatures.
Reports reaching from Kupwara said that due to snowfall at Sadna Top the Kupwara-Karnah road was blocked throughout the day while BEACON authorities put their men and machinery to clear the road. They expect the road to be opened by Wednesday in case of clear weather. Tourist resort valley Bungus in Handwara also received a light snowfall.
Due to snowfall in the hills cold wave could be felt in the plains too, and people reached out for warn clothes and blankets.
The Met department had earlier predicted wet weather for two days in Kashmir valley.
