Srinagar: Minor clashes erupted in the city centre Lal Chowk in late hours on Monday after a private car was hit by a CRPF vehicle on Maulana Azad Road.
Witnesses said that clashes erupted between people and CRPF personnel after the family in the car entered into an argument with the forces personnel.
The government forces used lathicharge to disperse the people, witnesses said.
The car hit by the accident belonged to one Peer Mohammed Yasin Khakee who along with his family was driving towards home.
One of the family members, Danish Ahmad, said that no one among the family members was injured, however, the car was badly damaged.
Station House Officer, Kothi Bagh, Sajad Ahmad denied any incident of stone pelting or clashes and said that a minor accident at Lal Chowk resulted in heavy traffic jam.
“No clashes erupted during the accident or the traffic jam,” said Sajad.
Both the vehicles were taken to the police station, after which traffic jam eased out.
“The traffic is now running smoothly”, he added. “We have taken both the vehicles to police station Kothi Bagh.”
