Jammu: Two alleged bovine smugglers were arrested and 25 animals rescued in two separate operations in Reasi and Rajouri districts of Jammu, police said on Sunday.
Abdul Ghani and Bahar Din, both residents of Mahore, were arrested while they were trying to smuggle 19 bovine animals at the Khor-Dewal area of Reasi district, a police spokesman said.
He said a police party after putting hectic efforts by scaling mountainous terrain intercepted the smugglers and rescued the animals.
The accused were apprehended in the hills falling in the Khour area, the spokesman said. A case was registered against them, he added.
In another operation, the police seized a truck carrying six animals after a long chase near Narian village in Rajouri district, the spokesman said.
The truck was on way to Rajouri from Jammu and tried to speed away after noticing the police check point, he said.
The driver of the vehicle escaped leaving behind the truck and the animals, the spokesman said. A case was registered and further investigation is on, he added.
