Srinagar: The Hurriyat Conference (M) Wednesday condemned the continuous house arrest of the amalgam chairman – Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and dubbed it “undemocratic and dictatorial”.
“Barring him (Mirwaiz) from social, religious and political obligation is the rights violations,” the statement said.
The Hurriyat also decried the prolonged house detention of the Hurriyat (G) chairman – Syed Ali Geelani and the arrest spree of scores of pro-freedom leaders including JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik, Mukhtar Ahmed Waza and Engineer Hilal War.
The statement said: “The massive crackdown has been launched on the resistance camp during the civic polls and the valley has been turned into a ‘military garrison’.”
Taking a dig at the Government of India, the amalgam said, “Instead beating the drums of polls that have been rejected by the people, New Delhi must understand the ground realities and take concrete steps for the resolution of this vexed dispute as per the wishes and aspirations of people so that peace returns in the south Asia.”
“The only way to resolve Kashmir,” the Hurriyat said, “is to hold plebiscite or to involve all three parties to the dispute – people of Kashmir, India and Pakistan – for a meaningful and result oriented dialogue.”
