Polls an exercise in futility, says Sehrai

Srinagar: The Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) chairman Mohd Ashraf Sehrai Tuesday said holding elections in JK is an exercise in futility and “the first essence of this process should be an establishment of democratic institutions”.
“Elections have no value in Kashmir. The only way out is by accepting the basic problem and addressing it,” Sehrai said in the statement, adding: “The democratic principles are not followed in Jammu and Kashmir, and democratic institutions have not been allowed to flourish.”
“Right to self-determination is the most democratic and simple way to resolve it,” he said.
The TeH chairman slammed the authorities over the crackdown on the Hurriyat leaders and activists and condemned the detention of pro-freedom leaders Mir Hafizullah, Ashraf Laya, Syed Imtiyaz Haider and others, and called for their immediate release.
