AAC pays tribute to Mirwaiz Muhammad Farooq

Srinagar: The Awami Action Committee (AAC) Tuesday paid tributes to the party founder – Mirwaiz Muhammad Farooq for his commitment and steadfastness towards the Kashmir cause.
Terming the October 10 as another black day in the history of Jammu and Kashmir, AAC in the statement said it was on this day in 1965 when he (Mirwaiz Farooq) was forcibly arrested for his pro-freedom political conviction and ideology and kept behind the bars for almost three years without any trial.
“And since then the party observes October 10 as the ‘Prisoners’ Day’,” the statement said. After his release in 1967, the party said, he remained committed towards representing peoples’ true aspirations till his death on May 21, 1990.
Meanwhile, the AAC also expressed deep concern and anguish over the plight of Kashmiri political prisoners lodged in various. The party in the statement paid tribute to the steadfastness of Shabir Ahmed Shah, Advocate Shahidul Islam, Altaf Fantosh, Nayeen Ahmed Khan, Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saifullah, Mehrajudin Kalwal, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Asiya Andrabi, Fehmeeda Sofi, Nahida Nasreen and others, and demanded their immediate release.
