‘Departmental farms to be developed as centres of excellence’

SRINAGAR: Director Agriculture Kashmir, Syed Altaf Aijaz Andrabi on Saturday asked officers to expedite the expenditure in different programmes so that the actual purpose of the schemes could be served and their benefits could reach the farmers and to ensure that every allotment made should be judiciously utilised and the expenditures documented digitally’.
Andrabi said the government was planning to restore all its assets and, therefore, directed all the concerned officers to furnish the details of unfunded/languishing projects in different districts of Kashmir division so that the report could be submitted to government for further course of action.
Andrabi was speaking during a meeting held with senior officers of the department here at Agriculture Complex, Lalmandi.
He impressed upon the officers to explore all the avenues, opportunities so that a cluster of villages in all the districts of the division could be identified and developed on modern lines, an official handout read.
He said “the department should double the efforts to make a skill-based farming community with a vision to compete with the farmers of developed agriculture economies”, read the handout.
Andrabi highlighted the importance of strengthening the departmental farms. “The departmental farms can serve as centre of excellence, showcasing different agricultural activities in a passionate manner so that more and more educated young minds could be attracted towards farming sector”, Andrabi said.
He directed the concerned officers to ensure the departmental farms were developed on international standards in order to make our farmers relevant in Indian and international markets, the handout added.
