Baramulla: The high-tension wires hanging on poplar trees and sticks along the Srinagar-Baramulla highway near the Tappar area of Pattan are posing a serious threat to commuters. Most of the wooden poles here were damaged years ago, said locals of the area, after which the Power Development Department (PDD) replaced few them with iron poles. Most the power supply lines, however, are still hanging from trees, broken wooden poles and, in some places, from sticks.
“The department changed only a few electricity poles along the Srinagar-Baramulla road, but most of the high-tension lines are still hanging on broken wooden poles and trees. They not only the put the lives of people using the road at risk, these lines are also a threat for transporters who use this busy road round the clock. Every day, thousands of passenger and other vehicles are running on this busy road, and these high-tension lines can take people’s lives at any time, but the officials of the PPD are counting the electric bills and other things, and are not paying the situation any attention,” said local resident Gulam Mohiudin.
