17 soldiers injured in Shopian road accident

Troopers were travelling in a private load carrier

SHOPIAN: At least 17 soldiers were injured when a load carrier carrying them overturned in Kanipora village on outskirts of Shopian town in south Kashmir.
A vehicle carrying soldiers of 23 PARA skidded off the road near Kanipora bridge on Friday night (11:30pm) leaving at least 17 soldiers injured, official sources told Kashmir Reader.
Local residents from Kanipora said that troops were travelling in a TATA 207 load carrier when the accident took place.
“We heard some cries, as we came out we saw a private vehicle skidded from road and many people lying there,” a local resident said.
All the injured, sources said were removed to hospital for treatment.
Five of the seriously injured soldiers have been removed to army’s 92 base hospital at Badamibagh, Srinagar for advanced treatment.
A senior police officer told Kashmir Reader that army didn’t provide details to police about the accident.
“They neither provided us details of injured persons nor which vehicle they were boarding, however, the accident took place during night hours,” he said .
Senior Superintendent of Police Shopian, Sandeep Choudary didn’t respond to repeated phone calls from this reporter.

Soldier, civilian injured in Kupwara road mishap
SRINAGAR: An army soldier and a civilian were injured in a road accident in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday.
Sources said a speeding passenger vehicle hit a soldier in Rawatpora area of Kupwara Saturday afternoon, while a passenger of the vehicle also received injuries when the vehicle hit a wall along the roadside.
The civilian was identified as Adil Hussain of Karnah Tehsil while the army man could not be identified.
