Reiterates poll boycott call

Srinagar: A peaceful protest was held by Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLLF) leaders on the call from resistance leadership on Friday here against the arrest spree. A poll boycott call was also reiterated by the protesters.
“On Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) programme, various JKLF leaders and activists led a peaceful demonstration at city centre against the detention of resistance leaders. The leaders, as per the plan, also visited many areas and urged people to boycott elections,” the JKLF statement said.
“If participation in elections is a democratic right, then boycotting it is also a democratic right,” the statement said. “Spree of arrests and other measures taken by the authorities is nothing but absurd.”
The statement said: “Holding placards in their hands and raising slogans, the protesters called for the complete poll boycott. Zonal general secretary JKLF – Sheikh Abdul Rashid addressed the demonstrators.”
The incarnated JKLF chairman – Yasin Malik, the statement said, in his message condemned the “military operation” ahead of local bodies’ polls. “On one hand authorities are boasting about upholding democracy, but on the other hand a spree of arrests has been started,” he said.
Terming civic elections against the interests of the people of Jammu Kashmir, JKLF chairman said that “New Delhi has always portrayed polls as being a vote in their favour”.
