Srinagar: Professor Pullin B Nayak from Delhi School of Economics, New Delhi, delivered a special lecture in the department of economics, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) on the topic “Teaching of Economics” at Nowgam campus III here on Thursday.
Dean school of social sciences and head department of economics, Prof G M Bhat, faculty members, research scholars, and students attended the lecture.
Prof Nayak said that although India is growing at a fast pace, there are still a multitude of problems like massive unemployment, inequalities in income and wealth, and poverty which are of utmost concern. He emphasised the need to understand and mitigate the problems and further improve welfare of the masses through Keynes’ prescriptions which are based not simply on pure economics but on a host of allied subjects like mathematics, history, philosophy and political science.
The expert argued that we need to combine all broad forms of knowledge to address the subject of economics and the related economic problems. Finally, he also gave some insights on the dichotomy between the Laissez-Faire economies and state controlled economies.
