Weapon heist: Lawmaker Ajaz Mir accuses police of forcing his PSO’s to speak against him

Srinagar: The Peoples Democratic Party lawmaker from Wachi constituency of Shopian district Aijaz Ahmad Mir on Thursday alleged that the Munshi of Rajbagh Police Station was compelling the families of his former Personal Security Officers to speak against him in the “weapon heist case”.

Mir, from whose official residence in Srinagar, an SPO, Adil Bashir decamped with 7 AK-47 rifles and his licensed pistol on September 28, also accused the Munshi of hurling invective’s at him and his family members.

The Personal Security Officers of Mir have been detained in Police Station Rajbagh.

Mir said that the families of the PSO’s went to meet them at Raj Bagh police station. “Inside the police station and in the presence of several other cops, the Munshi has abused me and my family members and also compelled them to speak against me during the course of investigations,” Mir told Kashmir Reader.

Quoting the family members of the detained PSO’s, Mir alleged the Munshi of compelling the families of PSO’s to motivate them to speak against Mir and allege his involvement in the case.

A police official at the Rajbagh police station confirmed that Mir called the Station House Officer of the police station and raised the issue. He said that the SHO has taken up the matter with SSP Srinagar.

The police have constituted a Special Investigation Team with superintendent of police South Srinagar as its head to investigate the looting of seven rifles and a licensed pistol of the legislator.

The SIT will investigate how the plan to loot weapons from the official residence of a legislator in Srinagar was executed by Adil Bashir, a resident of Zainapora Shopian, who has since joined Hizbul Mujahideen.
