BUDGAM: Weeks after a Panchayat Ghar was torched in Kultrech village in Chadoora area of Budgam district, police has claimed breakthrough in the case by recovering “indiscriminating material” during a house search in Dulatpora village.
A police statement said that search warrants were obtained from the court, as part of the investigation of the case registered at police station Budgam regarding the torching of Panchayat Ghar and “assistance of civil independent witnesses” were taken during searches and proper procedure was also followed.
“Accordingly a house was searched in Dulatpora Chadoora, where three magzines of AK 47, one pouch and other articles were also recovered from the house,” it said.
The material has been kept attached for further enquiry. On September 20, a Panchayat Ghar was set ablaze during late hours in Kultrech village.
Since September 16, when dates for Panchayat elections were announced in in the state, there has been a spate of arson bids targeting panchayat offices, mostly in south Kashmir.
