‘School curriculum in Kashmir needs change’
Srinagar: A delegation of Private Schools Association of Jammu and Kashmir (PSAJK) on Tuesday held an interactive session with Prof Qazi S Azher, Chairman Scientific Review Committee, Michigan State University USA, who is on a seven day visit to the Valley.
The delegation was led by G N Var Chairman PSAJK, M Y Wani, President PSAJK, Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo, Chairman Moral Education Council, PSAJK and other officials. The two sides held a detailed discussion on the present scenario of education in Kashmir and ways to improve it.
Prof Qazi lamented the fact that most of the curriculum in Kashmiri schools is obsolete and it is becoming a road block to the future of prospective careers. “To meet the challenges of 20th century, the education system in Kashmir needs a total revamp. We have to bring some semblance into the School curriculum. The world has changed a lot and education system in Kashmir seems to be stuck in old times,” he said.
While narrating his experience in the field spanning over decades, Prof Qazi suggested number of ways to streamline and develop the education sector in Kashmir. He said that the valley is full of talent and given right direction by way of good education, it can produce gems.
The PSAJK delegation briefed Prof Qazi about various initiatives they have undertaken towards excellence in the field of education. They discussed the ways through which more such initiatives could be taken so that maximum people could be benefited.
Prof Qazi said that he will be glad to help in rejuvenating the school education in Kashmir.
Prof Qazi S Azher is on a seven day visit of the valley on the invitation of Chairman Moral Education Council of Private Schools’ Association J&K. He will be delivering lectures on various topics at Kashmir University, Central University, etc besides interacting with scholars in the education field. He will also conduct workshops for teacher training at various educational institutes.
Prof Qazi is a renowned academic expert and is an authority on curriculum development. He has many publications to his credit in the field of medical sciences. He has been bestowed with many awards viz MANSHA Educational Award, Best Instructor Award, Award of Outstanding Service and Dedication, Community Service Award, Award of Appreciation and Dedication, Award of Appreciation and Efforts towards promoting cultural awareness, Apple Award of Clinical Excellence, etc.
