BUDGAM: A father-son duo from the BJP, a Congress party candidate, and an Independent withdrew their nomination papers on Monday for Urban Local Body (ULB) elections, scheduled on October 8, in municipal area Budgam.
Sources in the election department told Kashmir Reader that the four candidates withdrew nomination from elections in two wards of Budgam municipal committee.
Today was the last date for withdrawal of nomination for the first phase of ULB elections scheduled on October 8.
Among the four candidates who have quit, two have withdrawn from Haknipora Ward (3) and two from Karipora ward (6).
The father and son from BJP had filed their papers for Karipora and Haknipora wards, respectively.
No candidate now remains to contest in Haknipora ward. The Congress candidate and the Independent candidate had also filed nomination for Haknipora ward.
In Karipora ward, only the sole Congress candidate remains. He will win unopposed.
A total of 12 candidates had filed nomination papers in the Budgam municipal area. Only 8 now remain.
