BARAMULLA: Prompted by the public complaints, Legal Metrology Department Baramulla has booked an edible oil manufacturer for resorting to short weighment and for violating labelling norms in the manufacture and sale of edible oil packages.
Few months back the same manufacturer was booked by the Srinagar wing of the Department and fine was imposed upon the manufacturer after the manufacturer had assured the offence will not be repeated. However, the manufacturer seems to have mislead the enforcement agencies, officials said.
Following consumer complaints lodged against Kamal Deep Brand edible oil, an inspection was carried out by the Legal Metrology Department District Baramulla headed by the Assistant Controller Baramulla wherein it was found that every package of the edible oil was short in net quantity beyond maximum permissible error as allowed under the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011. Further, the packages were also found to be without the mandatory declaration of consumer care details which is an offence under the above mentioned provisions of the Law.
A case has been registered by the department against the offender.
