BUDGAM: A total of 56 candidates have filed nomination papers for elections to six municipal committees in Budgam district, sources in the state electoral office told Kashmir Reader.
They said that for the second phase of elections which are going to be held on October 10, a total of 26 candidates have filed nomination papers. For the first phase of elections scheduled on October 8, a total of 30 candidates have filed their nominations.
Only one candidate has filled nomination papers in the total 13 wards in municipal area of Beerwah, the sources said.
In Magam municipal area, 13 candidates have filed nomination papers in its 13 wards while in Charar-e-Sharief munipal area, 12 candidates have filed their nominations in its 13 wards.
The last date for filing nomination papers for the first phase was September 27 and for the second phase it was September 29. The scrutiny of nomination papers for first phase was held on September 28 and the deadline for withdrawal of candidature for the first phase is October 1.
In Budgam municipal area, 12 forms were submitted, 11 in Chadoora, and 7 in Khan Sahib municipal area.
Budgam district is divided into six municipal committees of Budgam, Chadoora, Khansahab, Magam, Beerwah and Charar-e-Sharief. They have a total number of 72 wards. The polling would be held in two phases on October 8 and 10.
