Srinagar: Vigilance Organisation Kashmir (VOK) has sought voluminous details from SKIMS administration about the purchases made through its Pharmacy department in the last six years and expiry items during the period.
Following a complaint about fund embezzlement and fraud in purchases, the Vigilance has communicated to the Director SKIMS to submit the detailed information about purchases made from 2012 till now so that probe can be taken forward.
Sources told Kashmir Reader that VOK initiated the probe following a complaint regarding the embezzlement of funds at Pharmacy Department after many drugs and consumables were found missing from the drug counter and pharmacists had withheld public money for more than a year.
“The Central Purchase Committee of the institute also indulged in local purchases unnecessarily which has led to the huge expiry in the pharmacy department and burden on the public exchequer,” said an official privy to the inquiry.
Earlier, a Vigilance probe into fund embezzlement at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) has revealed that the Institute has violated the set guidelines probably to benefit higher officials during multi-crore purchases.
In last one month, the Vigilance Organisation raided various departments of SKIMS Soura and interrogated the officials accused of fund embezzlement in the purchase of drugs and multi-crore equipment during the tenure of former director Dr Showkat Zargar.
Recently, Director SKIMS has submitted reply about the purchases after vigilance asked him the details. But, as per sources, his reply was not satisfactory which lead to the raid in the institute.
