Restrictions imposed in downtown Srinagar for second straight day

Srinagar:  Authorities on Friday imposed strict restrictions in downtown Srinagar on second straight day Friday to thwart any protests against the killing of a youth in Noorbagh area during a forces operation on Thursday.

Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is also under house arrest in his Nigeen residence since yesterday, sources said.

According to reports police have arrested JKLF chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik from his Maisuma residence early today.

Witnesses said that a huge number of police and other forces have been deployed in downtown area of Srinagar who have closed all entry and exit points besides erected barricades on main roads to stop people’s movement.

Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) has called for a protest shutdown in Kashmir against the killing of Saleem Malik of Noorbagh who according to locals was killed by government forces during a search operation.

However police have denied the allegation saying hiding militants opened fire during the search operation resulting in the killing of Saleem.
