PULWAMA: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Pulwama, Ghulam Mohammad Dar on Thursday called for taking requisite steps to tap the potential of the horticulture industry in the Pulwama and stressed on laying special focus on generating awareness among farmers to motivate them to adopt the latest technology in the sector. He said the district has always remained forefront in horticulture and other allied sectors.
He was speaking at the inaugural of the 2-day district level mega fruit show at KVK Malangpora here,
Director Horticulture, Manzoor Ahmad Qadri was also present on the occasion.
Director Horticulture highlighted the role of the department in different schemes including the establishment of subsidised high-density orchards, horticulture machinery equipment, bore wells and vermin-compost units, etc. He urged farmers to avail benefits from various GoI and state-sponsored schemes.
The event was organised by the Department of Horticulture in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) under ‘Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture’ scheme with the aim to boost horticulture activities in the district, an official handout read.
On the occasion, stalls highlighting various varieties of fruits and other crops by the line departments for the awareness of farmers were also installed.
A technical session was also held in which trainers shared their expertise with the farmers and gave them technical know-how about latest practices.
