Srinagar: Government on Wednesday rolled out a unique Identification number for persons with disabilities.
The initiative was kicked off during a daylong function organised for training and rolling out of Unique ID for Persons with Disabilities Jammu and Kashmir organized by Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities at IMPARD Srinagar.
The CMOs and officials of Social welfare were also present on the occasion.
Secretary Social Welfare Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone termed the initiative as one of the important projects in the disability sector.

Ministry of Social Justice Empowerment K.V.S. Rao who was chief guest on the occasion stressed the need of having Unique ID for Persons with Disabilities particularly for the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Commissioner for persons with Disabilities Iqbal Lone delivered lecture on the entire project and informed about its implementation phase with a view of creating a National Database for PWDs, and to issue a Unique Disability Identity Card to each person with disabilities.
Lone said that the project will not only encourage transparency, efficiency and ease of delivering the government benefits to the person with disabilities, but will also ensure uniformity.
He added that the project will also help in stream-lining the tracking of physical and financial progress of beneficiaries at all levels of hierarchy of implementation – village level, block level, District level , State level and National level.
Other who were present on the occasion included Babu Ram Deputy Secretary Social Welfare , Deputy Director Health Dr. Kunzes Dolam , Dr Bashir Lone, Under Secretary CPwDs, Irfan Mushtaq, State Coordinator UDID Dharmendra Chauhan, master trainer for UDID for ministry for social justice and empowerment ,Govt. of India.
