Clashes erupt in Srinagar during civilian’s funeral procession

Srinagar: Clashes between protesters and government forces erupted in Sakedafar area of Srinagar soon after forces allegedly fired tear gas canisters on mourners carrying the body of the civilian allegedly killed in forces firing early Thursday.

Mohammad Saleem Malik a resident of Noorbagh area in Srinagar was killed after forces launched a search operation in the area.

Witnesses said that Saleem’s body was being taken to Eid Gah and when the mourners reached Sakedafar area the forces tried to intercept and disperse them which led to clashes.

They said that angry protesters pelted stones on forces and the clashes were going on when reports last came in.

Earlier authorities imposed curfew like restrictions in old Srinagar and snapped internet services in the summer capital.
