SRINAGAR: The nursing students of Sher-e- Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS), Soura on Tuesday again held a protest demonstration here in Srinagar demanding release of their classmate Muhammad Iqbal Rather, who was arrested by police on Srinagar-Jammu highway.
Iqbal was arrested along with the truck driver Riaz Ahmad from a truck which bore the registration number JK03F 1476. Police claims three militants of Jaish-e-Muhammad also travelled in same truck before being killed in a gunfight a day later.
Iqbal Ahmad Rather, son of Abdul Khaliq Rather, student of BSc Nursing at Sher-e- Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS) Soura, resident of Futlipora village in Pakherpora area of Budgam, was arrested by police in Jammu area.
Scores of protesters from Sher-e- Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS), Soura assembled here in Press enclave and staged a demonstration seeking release of their arrested classmate. Shouting slogans, the protesters alleged that Iqbal was arrested on fabricated charges.
Owais Ahmad, 3rd year Nursing Student at Sher-e- Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS), Soura Said ” Iqbal was one of the brilliant students in our college. We know him very well, he can never be involved in these kind of activities.”
“Iqbal had gone to Jammu to fix consultation date for his father is who is suffering from cancer. He has seven sisters. He is enrolled in Bsc final year at SKIMS. We did not want his career be ruined. The government should release Iqbal on humanitarian basis,” Shehla Qurashi, Classmate of Iqbal at SKIMS said.
Shehla added that they have already approached Director of SKIMS and I.G Kashmir regarding his release”
The protesters sought intervention of Governor Satya Pal Malik for release of Iqbal.
