A few weeks back, a video of an alleged police informer shot by suspected militants emerged on social media. In the nearly six-minute clip, one Nawaz Ahmad Khan, who claims to be a resident of Harwan village, bleeding profusely, rattles off names of alleged informers, who work for the police and army in the area. One of the names given by Nawaz was of Mushtaq, who has been abducted by unknown gunmen on Saturday night.
A neighbour of Mushtaq, who did not want to be named, told Kashmir Reader that they had no idea of the abduction till morning.
“It was only in the morning we came to know that Mushtaq has been abducted by some unknown men from his house. There is no news of him or his whereabouts so far, he is still untraceable,” the neighbour said.
SSP Sopore, Javed Iqbal earlier told Kashmir Reader that police have received a complaint from the family claiming their family member was kidnapped from his home by suspected militants late last night.
“We have launched a manhunt to trace the abducted man,” he added.
Later in the day, SSP Iqbal said efforts are on to trace him.
