SRINAGAR: A two-day live workshop on Laparoscopic and Hysteroscopic surgeries was hosted by the department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar at the Valley’s lone maternity – Lal Ded Hospital on September 22 and 23.
The procedures were conducted by the world-renowned doctors including an Egyptian Gynecologic surgeon, Prof Osama Shawki from the Cairo University, and Laparoscopic and Hysteroscopic surgeon Dr Hafeez-ur-Rehman.
“The event has been organised so that our postgraduate students and other resident doctors upgrade their knowledge about different techniques used in Gynecology and Obstetrics. It will also help them to impart skill in them which will improve patient care in the hospital,” said Dr Samiya Mufti, the organizing secretary of the program.
During the workshop, the procedures done in the hospital theatres were displayed live via HD system to the doctors sitting in the auditorium. The visiting faculty interacted with the senior residents and post-graduate students who asked several queries about the advanced techniques required in conducting such surgeries.
Leading gynecologist Dr Wazira Khanam was the guest of honour at the inaugural session, while Principal GMC, Srinagar Dr Samia Rashid was the chief guest.
The teachers and gynaecologists of the Valley were also felicitated during the workshop including Dr Bilques Jameela, Dr Farhat Hameed, Dr Shahida Mufti, Dr Shahida Mir, Dr Naseema Firdous and Dr Girja Dhar.
Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, Dr Shabir Sediqui, said such events provide a significant platform to doctors to educate themselves and update their skills. “Such workshops will be held on regular intervals so that doctors get hands-on training about their fields and new scientific advances,” he said.
