Baramulla: All the five non-local and unidentified militants who were killed by government forces in Bandipora district on Friday were buried in neighbouring Baramulla district on Saturday night.
Sources said that the bodies of the five militants were taken to Police Lines Baramulla on Saturday evening, from where they were shifted to the Gantamulla graveyard along the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway and on the banks of the Jhelum river. Five graves had already been dug there in the evening for the burial.
Sources said that the bodies were brought to the graveyard at midnight and buried soon after. About a dozen people, including some policemen, said funeral prayers for the slain.
The graveyard at Gantamulla was established in 2016 to bury non-local militants, after a huge gathering of people participated in the funeral of Pakistani militant Abu Qasim in south Kashmir. To avoid such large public gatherings, government authorities began to bury bodies of non-local militants in this graveyard which is close to two army camps and a police station and far away from any civilian area. Till now, 107 non-local militants including Abu Dujana have been buried in this graveyard.
