Encounter breaks out in south Kashmir’s Tral

Srinagar: A fierce encounter broke out Sunday morning between government forces and militants in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Early morning, special operations group (SOG) of police and army laid a cordon around Aripal village of Tral and started a cordon and search operation (CASO), witnesses told Kashmir Reader.

As the CASO was underway, militants hiding in the village opened fire upon the government forces to break the cordon. The government forces, they said returned the fire triggering off a gun-battle.

Two to three militants are believed to be trapped in the village.

The exchange of gunfire was going on when the last reports came in.
