Srinagar: Police on Sunday detained employees’ joint action committee (EJAC) President, Abdul Qayoom Wani along with a dozen of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers during a demonstration here in this capital city.

Scores of SSA teachers led by EJAC President Abdul Qayoom Wani this morning assembled at Pratap Park here and took out a protest march seeking implementation of 7th pay commission benefits for its teachers, witnesses told Kashmir Reader.

Shouting slogans, the protesters tried to march towards Raj Bhawan. However, the cops deployed in advance intercepted them.

“Cops used water cannon after teachers refused to disperse. EJAC President was among a dozen protesting teachers detained by police,” witnesses said.

Before being whisked away, Wani told Kashmir Reader that today’s protest was organized to press for the demand of SSA teachers, head teachers and RMSA masters for the benefits of 7th pay commission and delinking of their salaries from MHRD budget to state budget.
