DDC for rejuvenation of silk industry in Pulwama

PULWAMA: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Pulwama on Saturday called for concerted efforts to rejuvenate the silk industry in the district which, he said, would benefit thousands of unemployed youth.
He said that sericulture was an age-old occupation people of the state and Kashmir has been a part of historic silk route.
The DDC said that there had been a remarkable improvement in the quality of cocoons in the district owing to clement weather conditions adding that farmers were fetching a desirable price ranging from Rs 1000-1200 per kg of the cocoon, an official handout read.
He was speaking at during the inauguration of a cocoon auction market at Sericulture Complex here which was attended by buyers from within and outside the state.
The DDC also interacted with the growers and directed the officials of the Sericulture Department to prepare an action plan for the logistics and quarantine measures for the cocoon production in the district, the handout read.
