Baramulla: The final match of the Inter-Club Tournament of Big Blues Football Club Baramulla was played on Saturday at College Ground, Baramulla. Team Red and Team Green encountered each other in the early morning in a tough battle witnessed by a huge gathering of sports enthusiasts. Team Red scored a goal in the first half of the match; Team Green tried hard till the last to balance the score but could not. The result, hence, was 1-0 in favour of Team Red, which received fitting appreciation for this grand victory.
Later, a graceful post-match presentation was held to felicitate the players for the best performances in the tournament. The chief guest and guest of honour were from the veteran football clubs of Baramulla.
Speaking on the occasion, Shafqat Ahmad raised certain issues regarding poor maintenance of the only significant ground in the town and raised demands for facilities such as a jogger’s path around the ground’s circumference to prevent interference during matches, a good sanitary complex, proper fencing, levelling of the ground and turfing of the surface. He drew the attention of the guests to the need for access to be made to the district administration to have focused and dedicated staff for the important ground, which is being sustained without adequate government support.
Joint Director Planning, Kupwara, Imtiyaz Ahmad, who plays with one of the teams, assured the assembly that proper access with DDC Baramulla shall be made and efforts would be made to ensure that the prestige and glory of the ground is restored.
It is pertinent to mention that College Ground Baramulla is one of the grounds which witnesses a full influx of sports-loving persons and joggers each day from dawn to dusk.
