Shopian: At least six people were injured in clashes which broke out between protesters and government forces during cordon and search operation (CASO) in Shirmal village of south Kashmir’s Shopian on Saturday, sources said.
Local sources said that by last midnight a joint team of Police, army and CRPF besieged the village and door to door searches were started early in morning.
Soon the protesters, mostly youth hit the streets pelting stones on forces to sabotage their operation, they said adding that forces retaliated by firing tear gas canisters and pellets.
Witnesses told Kashmir Reader that at least six people received pellet injures during clashes which were going on when reports last came in, however their injuries were minor.
The searches were underway in 250 household village situated some 500 meters from a major army base at Balpora of 12 sector RR and Brigadiers Headquarter, sources said.
