Bandipora: Two militants have been killed during an encounter in the forest area of Sumular in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
Police said the encounter started late afternoon in Shogbaba area in Sumlar, after an exchange of gun fire between militants and government forces who had cordoned off the area in the morning.
The search operation was jointly launched by Army, police and CRPF in the area.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Range, Swayam Prakash Pani confirmed a local news agency about killing of two militants in an ongoing operation in woods of Sumular.
“One militant body has been recovered while another is visible and lying at the encounter site. The cordon and search is intact as the area is vast. No firing is going on presently,” the IGP told the news agency.
Sources said that two army men also sustained minor injuries in the operation.
Earlier the Kashmir Police tweeted, “A militant has been killed so far. Identity is yet to be ascertained. Search continues. Information is preliminary in nature.”
