Srinagar: Three more militants have been killed during an encounter in the forest area of Sumular in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Friday taking the overall death toll to five.
SSP Bandipora, Sheikh Zulfikar Azad confirmed to Kashmir Reader that five militants have been killed in the operation so far.
“Five militants have been killed in the encounter,” SSP said adding identity of the slain was yet to be ascertained.
Army PRO Col Rajesh Kalia also confirmed the killing of three more militants in the gun battle. “Three more militants killed in Bandipora, total five killed,” Col Kalia said.
Police sources said the encounter started Thursday afternoon in Shogbaba area in Sumlar, after an exchange of gun fire between militants and government forces who had cordoned off the area.
The search operation was jointly launched by Army, police and CRPF in the area.
Two militants were killed last evening, police said adding three more militants were killed today in the ongoing operation.
