DUBAI: Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of the ongoing Asia Cup after suffering an acute back injury during the group league encounter against Pakistan on Wednesday. He will be replaced most likely by Deepak Chahar. Chahar will reportedly join the team on Thursday.
Earlier, rumours of Pandya not taking part kept swirling after he was stretchered off the field in the 18th over of the Pakistan innings. Pandya was into his fifth over and just as he was about to complete his over, the India allrounder Pandya started showing signs of discomfort. He immediately felt his lower back and lay on the ground in considerable pain. Unable to get up, Pandya was stretchered off the field and taken for medical examination. He ended with figures of 4.5-0-24-0.
Meanwhile, this is the third instance in the last three months where an Indian player has been unable to play due to aggravated imjuries. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and R Ashwin were the previous casualties. While Kumar missed the Test series in England, Ashwin had to sit out for the last Test.
