Srinagar: J&K High Court Bar Association, Srinagar condemned the banning of Muharram Processions and imposing of curfew like restrictions in the Srinagar city on Wednesday.
The Bar, in a statement, said that right to take out religious procession is an integral part of any religion and there cannot be any ban in taking out such a procession or imposing curfew like restrictions to stop people from participating in those processions.
“While festivities of other communities are allowed in the state without any interruption, but it is only Muharram procession which was previously allowed to be taken out from different parts of Srinagar, is now being banned for political reasons and that too under the garb of law and order problem, which is highly condemnable,” the association said.
The Bar also termed the approval given by the government of India to an ordinance making “triple-talaq” a criminal offence as “anti-Muslim”.
