Srinagar: The Democratic Party Nationalist (DPN) on Thursday announced to boycott the upcoming municipal and local body elections in the state over the issue of Article-35A.
The decision in this regard was taken by the party patron, Ghulam Hassan Mir after chairing meet of the executive body here in which the present scenario in the state in view of polls was discussed, a party spokesman told Kashmir Reader.
“DPN believes in the grass root democracy and has firm commitment in the empowerment of people. Participating in the elections would be welcome but the deferment of case in the SC on the pretext of the local elections on the request of the Government has raised fingers on the intention vis-à-vis Art-35 A,” the spokesperson said.
“The people look these elections with suspicion and are not showing any interest. In view of this, our party decides to be with the people and not to participate in the elections,” he added.
