SRINAGAR: The Casual Labourers of Forest Department on Wednesday held a protest demonstration here in Srinagar demanding release of their pending wages and implementation of SRO 520 in their favour.
Scores of casual labourers from various districts of Kashmir valley assembled here in press enclave and raised slogans in favour of their “genuine” demands.
The protesters said that they are working in the Forest Department from last 14 years and government is not releasing their pending wages on time.
“We are facing very hardships; our wages have not been released by the forest department. The schooling of our children’s has been hit. we cannot pay school fee of our children. The government should consider the sufferings of the casual labours who are working in the forest department and release wages at earliest,” Said Showket Ahmad Bhat, one of the casual labour from Ganderbal District.
Syed Ghulam Geelani, General Secretary of EJAC third front said, there are nearly 7000 casual labourers working in the Forest Department of Kashmir valley.
“We demand their wages which are pending from 7 to 9 months should be released. We also demand the wages as per Labour Act of the state,” he said.
The protesting casual labours said that if the government has already promised them that they will be regularised on the completion of 15 years of services in concerned department, than why the government has not implemented SRO 520 yet in their favour.
They said that the government is “failing them from more than a decade” by not regularizing them.
The protesting employees of the forest department requested the Governor of intervention into the matter to end their sufferings.
