2-day national workshop on ‘food safety’ concluded at IUST

Awantipora: Two days National Workshop on “Food Safety: Current scenario and future challenges” which was organised by Department of Food Technology, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) under TEQIP-III concluded here on Wednesday.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Mushtaq A Sidiqqui, Commisioner Food Safety Dr A K Dar were present on the occasion. The workshop was attended by the members from food industry, food safety officers, and students.
The prominent guest speakers during the workshop were Prof Rekha Singhal from Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, Prof H R Naik, head Food Science & Technology SKUAST-K, Rashid Hussain, Scientist BARC Zakura, Sona Sharma from Quality Council of India, Pravin Jagtap Plant manager US based company Schreibr Dynamix, Dr Tawheed Amin, Food Safety Officer and Prof M A Pal, HoD Livestock Product Technology, SKUAST-K.
Safety management systems like implementation of IND HACCP, INDGAP, INDGHP and use of irradiation as a safety tool for food preservation were discussed during the workshop.
In the student poster session, food safety issues like food adulteration, junk foods, GM foods, personal hygiene, clean drinking water were highlighted and focused the attention of the visitors.
Dean Academic affairs Prof A M Shah, Dean SOET Prof A H Moon, Registrar Prof F A Mir, Chief Librarian Syed Reyaz Rufai were present on the valedictory function and shared their experiences on the food safety aspects pertaining to the theme of the workshop and distributed awards and certificates among the participants.
