Anantnag: A CRPF soldier was wounded late Monday night during a militant attack on a paramilitary camp here in Newa village of Pulwama district.
The injured has been identified as Constable Manzoor Ahmad Khan, of the 183 Bn.
“He was immediately evacuated to hospital and is stable,” a senior police official from Pulwama told Kashmir Reader.
According to police reports, the camp came under attack at about midnight on Monday.
“Militants hurled a hand grenade inside the camp, which did not explode,” the police official said, adding that militants followed the hand grenade with indiscriminate firing, in which the CRPF constable was injured.
“The fire was retaliated by the security personnel and the exchange of fire continued for a brief while before the militants fled,” the official said.
A huge contingent of government forces reached the area following the attack and carried out searches to try and trace out the militants. The search operation was called off as militants had managed to sneak out under the cover of darkness.
On Tuesday morning, militant outfit Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) claimed the attack, calling it “revenge” for the Jammu encounter in which three Jaish militants were gunned down near Katra in Reasi district.
