TeH tehsil president among several arrested in late night raids

Anantnag: A spontaneous shutdown was observed Tuesday in Anantnag town and some peripheral areas against the killing of a local civilian near a gunfight site in Kulgam on September 15.
Rauf Ahmad Ganaie, a resident of Anchidora area in Anantnag, was killed in forces’ action to curb protests in Chowgam area of Kulgam soon after five militants were killed in a gunfight.
All commercial establishments, schools, colleges, offices and other places of work remained closed in Anantnag town, as people mourned the killing.
Traffic was thin in the area in wake of the shutdown.
Hundreds of people also thronged Ganaie’s house in Al-Farooq colony of Anchidora area throughout the day, expressing solidarity with the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, several people, including the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Tehsil President, were detained by police during late night raids in different areas of the Anantnag town.
As per local sources more than half a dozen people were detained.
“TeH Tehsil President, Ashiq Narchoor is also among the detainees,” a local source told Kashmir Reader.
Narchoor had recently visited the family of slain militant Masroor Maulvi of Anantnag, killed during the Chowgam encounter.
A senior police official acknowledged that several people were summoned for “questioning”
“We have not arrested anyone but yes some people have been summoned for questioning. Some have been allowed to go home, already,” the police official said.
